Rune Stones, often referred to as Runes or Rune Keys are collectable items that appear in MediEvil, MediEvil: Resurrection and the PS4 remake.
Description and usage
It is said that Rune Stones were made by the ancients, who captured the magical energy emanating from Gallowmere and trapped it within the stones.[1] Runes are used to unlock doorways and gates that have a lock in the style of a begging hand. These hands will only accept Rune Stones of the same colour as themselves.

Development
“It's a poster for one of my earliest experiments... doesn't work though, complete waste of time.“ This section refers to content that is not present in the final versions of MediEvil due to being cut, removed or repurposed. |
Before the introduction of an inventory system into the game, the runes were displayed in a Rune Stone Menu which would appear after collecting a rune or approaching a rune-locked door.[2]
